Some 250 WFSE/AFSCME Shop Stewards from across the state gave a rousing “Yes” to any possible strike among Student Support Services Staff at The Evergreen State College.

They held an impromptu sign-making party and assembled dozens of “On Strike” signs. It came during a lunchtime presentation at the union’s annual Shop Steward Conference in Seatac.

The 55-member unit voted Wednesday by a 90% margin to support job actions up to and including strike actions as they work for a first contract with just cause due process rights and fair compensation.

Bargaining Team members Courtney Bailey and Reaz Mahmood thanked the stewards for their emphatic thumbs up. They invited them to the “Day of Action” at Evergreen, Tuesday, May 28, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Evergreen Bus Circle.51813b

“Your support is overwhelming,” Bailey told the stewards. “I hope to see you on the 28th.”
