About Council28

We are WFSE • AFSCME Council 28 • AFL-CIO

Our union fights for workers’ rights for our members and for workers everywhere.
As part of the largest union for state agency, higher education employees and public service employees, WFSE/AFSCME members speak with a proud and strong collective voice.

The Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is Council 28 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). AFSCME is the largest public employees union in the United States with than 1.7 million members and a member of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

WFSE/AFSCME is a highly democratic union. Members make important decisions – from setting priorities for contract negotiations and endorsing legislative candidates to planning job actions and changing the way the union itself is organized. Membership allows you to take part in the decisions that steer the union.

That’s why union membership is the first step in making the most out of WFSE representation.
Union membership is personally empowering. It connects us to the historical union movement and main street movement of today, where middle class people are fighting for their rights to negotiate for fair wages and working conditions.
