American Friends Service Committee voting on new contract

Members of the Federation’s small bargaining unit at the American Friends Service Committee reached tentative agreement April 12. The contract is retroactive and runs through Sept. 30, 2015. Online balloting ends May 3.

Here are highlights:

Article 11 Work Force Reduction- Re-employment counseling funds will be a lump sum of $500 or $1000 (based on years of service) and no longer a percentage of total costs.

Article 15 Remuneration- Cost of living increases and placement on a new salary schedule.  COLA amount is based on years of service and paid retroactively to October 1, 2012.  COLAs for 2013 and 2014 based on the US Consumer Price Index but no less than 2% each year.  Parties will meet between July and October 2013 to bargain the new salary schedules.   More specific criteria for pay increases when performing higher-level work with a newly added appeal process for denials.

Article 17 Dependent Care- Developed a pool of $10,000 for all employees to access with a $750 cap per fiscal year.  Added in the ability to get additional funds if the pool is not exhausted at the end of the year.

Article 18 Pension Plan- For 430(b) Plans, employer’s contribution increased from 1% to 2%.

Article 20 Time Off with Pay- Added Cesar Chavez Day to the list of Holidays.  Improved language around participation in approved outside activities.
