Community College Coalition confirms bargaining dates

The coalition of 12 Community Colleges kicks off negotiations May 20 with a team pre-meet at Federation Headquarters in Olympia and the start of formal negotiations the next day, May 21, at the state Labor Relations Offices on the Capitol Campus.

Additional dates have just been confirmed: June 19, 25, 26 and 27; July 10-11; and Aug. 12. More dates are expected.

The coalition team has added three new members: Rick Pelfrey and Mark Hume from Community Colleges of Spokane; and Forrest Huff from South Puget Sound CC.

In a related note, Local 304 President Ty Pethe, a Seattle Central Community College member, joined two American Federation of Teachers colleagues I writing a guest opinion for the online Crosscut asking a question that many are asking: why are the three Seattle schools and others dropping “community” from their titles? Local 304 and the other unions there “both voted to keep ‘Community’ in our district and colleges’ names, because we think community is an essential part of our vision and purpose; education that is accessible and grounded in our communities.” Read the full piece at:
