Grappling with cuts to pensions that workers have already earned

PBS Newshour and MSNBC coverage of cuts to public employee pensions in Detroit and Illinois:

Published on Dec 4, 2013

Illinois joined other cities and states in cutting pensions as way to curb costs. Should public employees who have already earned their retirement be subject to cuts?

Judy Woodruff talks to Andrew Biggs of the American Enterprise Institute and Steven Kreisberg of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

And on MSNBC:  AFSCME President Lee Saunders says AFSCME will continue to fight legally these political decisions to cut worker pensions. An appeal has already been filed.

President Lee Saunders says it’s about priorities. Cities and municipalities are suffering, yes, but you might want to resolve some of these issues by having corporations pay their fair share (not taking earned pensions from retirees). Cities and states across the country give HUGE tax breaks equaling billions of dollars. #itsaboutpriorities
