Shared Leave Requests



HOW TO LIST YOUR SHARED LEAVE REQUEST:

  •  If you’ve been approved to receive shared leave by your agency or institution, you can place a notice here. Once you’ve been approved by your agency or institution, WFSE/AFSCME can place your shared leave request here.
  • To make a request, call Tim Welch at 1-800-562-6002, e-mail him at tim@wfse.org.
  • Donations of unused annual leave, sick leave or all or part of personal holidays can be made.
  • In all cases, agencies or institutions must approve requests to donate and receive shared leave.

ABOUT USSLP:

The 2007 Legislature created a Uniformed Service Shared Leave Pool (USSLP) to allow employees to donate leave for any employee who has been called to service in the uniformed services and who meets the shared leave requirements. Vonda had a heart attack in May followed by two strokes. Her recovery will be lengthy. She has exhausted all her available leave. Narendra was in a serious car accident Sept. 22.  His recovery will be lengthy and require that he continue only to work partial days during his extensive therapy and multiple doctor appointments. She will have multiple surgeries on her hand. From now until the surgery, she is limited to four-hour workdays in preparation for surgery.  After the surgery she will have a lengthy recovery and a continued time of partial workdays. IN NEED OF SHARED LEAVE: Mentoria Thomas, a residential rehabilitation counselor 4 at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island and a member of Local 793, to care for Mentoria’s father, who is suffering from Stage 4 lung cancer. Since the diagnosis more than a year ago, Mentoria has exhausted all leave taking him to appointments and assisting him in other ways. Mentoria writes: “Recently, I was told he only has a few weeks left. He lives in Eastern Washington and I live in Western Washington.” Mentoria is in need of shared leave to care for the seriously ill father at this stage of his illness. IN NEED OF SHARED LEAVE: Angela Risher, an administrative assistant 4 with the Department of Transportation in Olympia and a member of Local 443, will undergo back surgery Sept. 30 involving a bone graft from her hip and three fusions. This stems from a fall suffered three years ago. Her immune system has been compromised and she is sometimes unable to walk safely because of the pain. She has exhausted all leave. She will be in recovery for at least six seeks. Then she will be released to work just two-three hours a day for two-three days a week.
