New Federation video commemorates 50th anniversary of March on Washington

Wednesday is also the 50th anniversary of the famous March on Washington that was a turning point in the civil rights movement, of which AFSCME then and now has been at the forefront. Federation members joined in the local commemoration Aug. 17 in Seattle. To remember that day and the day 50 years ago, the Federation has produced a YouTube video featuring images from the Seattle march and an interview with Local 53 member Paulette Thompson, the Region 10 representative for the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, the sponsor of the Seattle event.

State Reps. Luis Moscoso and Steve Conway joined WFSE/AFSCME members Saturday (Aug.17) at the Seattle march marking the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington that catapulted the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement into the mainstream.
