PSERS hearing Nov. 12

PensionPolicy-buttonUPDATE-2: It’s back on. Cancelled earlier today due to special session, the meeting has been reinstated for TUE NOV 12 @10am

The Select Committee on Pension Policy (SCPP) on Nov. 12, holds its scheduled public hearing on the Federation-initiated bill to add DSHS institutions workers in dangerous jobs to the PSERS retirement system.

The hearing will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Senate Hearing Room 4 in the John A. Cherberg Building on the Capitol Campus in Olympia. If you can attend, please come.

The bill, EHB 1923, passed the House earlier this year, but never got a Senate hearing. The Legislature can take it up again in 2014. A recommendation from the SCPP would be a big boost.

EHB 1923 provides membership in the Public Safety Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) for employees of the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) who provide direct care, custody, or safety in state institutions including the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration, the Mental Health hospitals, the Child Study and Treatment Center, the Special Commitment Center, and residential sites serving developmentally disabled patients or offenders
