Naselle members take action against proposed closure

naselle-aerial-webOne of the shocking and disappointing parts of the governor’s otherwise commendable budget plan released last week was the proposed closure of the Naselle Youth Camp in Pacific County. The governor would move the 76 youthful offenders to Echo Glen Children’s Center in Snoqualmie and Green Hill School in Chehalis.

But Local 2263 member wasted no time. They’re asking their three 19th District legislators to stop the closure and fund keeping it open when the Senate and House issue their budget plans.

They’re e-mailing Sen. Dean Takko (Dean.takko@leg.wa.gov), Rep. Brian Blake (Brian.blake@leg.wa.gov) and Rep. Jim Walsh (jim.walsh@leg.wa.gov) to stop the closure. The message:

• The Naselle Youth camp is a vital part of their community.

• Closing the facility would have catastrophic effects on their community.

• We need the 19th District legislators to support their constituents, friends and neighbors in keeping good jobs in that community – jobs that keep Washington strong and safe.

•We need these legislators to fight to preserve Naselle Youth Camp, which provides Washington’s kids with the rehabilitation and education they need to be successful.

• We all need to work together to keep this very important facility open in Pacific County.
