Text STRIKE to 69866

WHY THESE ACTIONS:

  • On May 15, Evergreen workers (WFSE/AFSCME Student Support Services Staff Union members) voted by a 90 percent margin to authorize job actions up to and including strike action.
  • Our WFSE/AFSCME Student Support Services Staff Union (SSSSU) members are state employee counselors, advisors, resident directors and others at The Evergreen State College in Olympia.
  • They’ve been at the table for more than 16 months. Seven days of mediation through Monday (May 27) still yielded no agreement.
  • They still do not have a fair contract settlement that includes the basic due process rights over discipline and termination that we all take for granted. These are called Just Cause protections. Those Just Cause protections exist in all Federation contracts in higher education and at state agencies.
  • These Student Support Services Staff also seek a fair compensation package. Unlike the rest of us, they currently do not receive any step increases. Without regular cost-of-living increases and with no step increases, our members’ average salaries remain at the 1992 state average.
