TESC Non-Management Exempt Staff Bargaining Update, 10/30/12

Bargaining with Evergreen’s management continued today after a two week break. Our team wore WFSE bargaining team polos in a show of solidarity. Management expressed their dissatisfaction with the action students took on October 9th, when 11 United Students Against Sweatshops members entered Art Costantino’s office, to share their concerns with management’s continued reluctance to agree to Just Cause/employee due process rights.

In an otherwise slow day of negotiations, Tentative Agreements were reached on two Articles: Employee Lounge Facilities and Employee Files. Additionally, our Bargaining Team received one counter from Evergreen on Work Schedules. We gave management yet another proposal on Discipline, which includes the essential component of Just Cause, or due process rights for our union members.

The bargaining session was also notable for including our first detailed discussion with management about employee compensation. Management provided information on the cost of certain salary proposals, which our Union will be analyzing in depth.

The next negotiation meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 8th, which we hope will be more productive.
