UW Bargaining Update

It’s down to the wire at the University of Washington. Here’s the UW Bargaining Team’s report:

On Friday (Sept. 5) we met with management for what turned out to be only a presentation by Greg McNutt of Milliman (the Seattle-based firm that does a custom salary survey for the UW for bargaining). Some key questions regarding how the survey is done and how the company works very hard to compare “apples to apples” were answered, but management still does not have an answer for the growing frustration our members are feeling.

We have been bargaining all summer long and management still has not presented an economic proposal.

Your team made good use of their time by planning the ratification process for 1488. Based on the stalling by management the timeframe between bargaining a contract and ratifying a contract could be very short if we are to meet the October 1st deadline.

The plan is for voting to once again be online. Watch for information on how to vote from your computer, smartphone or tablet or online at planned “Voter Information Centers.”

Watch your mail. Under this plan, Local 1488 members covered by the contract will receive a login and password by mail. So tell everyone in the family that if you get mail from WFSE/AFSCME save it!
