RE:                 Wage Re-opener Ratification Vote

Negotiations on the Wage Re-opener for your 2013-2015 contract have concluded. We have a proposal from management that is similar to the previous offer concerning wages.

Management has offered a one-time four (4) percent lump sum for members. Your bargaining team advocated for many months that members deserve and want a cost-of-living adjustment that would increase employees’ base salary and would be carried through their career at the university and factored into retirement pensions.

As a result of persistent advocacy by the team, management approved a one-time four (4) percent lump sum for non-represented staff and have made this same offer to represented bargaining unit members. Your WSU bargaining team will continue to press for a cost-of-living adjustment.

WSU Management has since increased the offer by adding a paid University Leave Day that can be used by members from the date of agreement until June 30, 2015. This additional paid leave day can be used in conjunction with a holiday to ensure eligibility for holiday pay or to add to a vacation leave request.

The next cycle of bargaining has begun on contract improvements and compensation for the 2015-2017 agreement.

At this time, your bargaining team recommends members ACCEPT the additional paid leave day and the 4% lump sum payment that will be paid out during the July 25, 2014 payroll cycle.

If you have any questions regarding the Wage Re-opener ratification vote, please contact a bargaining team member, or your local WFSE Field Office (Tacoma 800-924-5753 or Spokane 800-442-8618).
